Ryden adds Party Wall expertise to its Building Consultancy services in England
18 October 2022
Ryden's Building Surveyor, Adam Craven, part of our Building Consultancy team in Leeds, has recently become a member of the Institute of Party Wall Surveyors (IPWS) and is now the firm's in-house expert for all Party Wall related matters.
The IPWS has been established to address the existing void in knowledge and understanding of Party Wall matters and legislation. The purpose is to create a platform upon which Party Wall experts can develop cohesively as a professional body in its own right.
The Party Wall Act provides a framework in England and Wales for preventing or resolving disputes concerning party walls, party structures, boundary walls and excavations near neighbouring buildings.
A competent and experienced IPWS Surveyor will negotiate and prepare an award or Party Wall agreement and consider both neighbours’ interests, ensuring the Party Wall Act is correctly followed during the project.
Adam Craven, Building Surveyor and Party Wall expert at Ryden, explains:
"It is imperative to follow the procedures, as the adjoining owners may seek to stop your work through a court injunction or other legal redresses if the legislation is not respected, causing undue delay to projects and extra time and money.
"As Party Wall Surveyors, we can advise both developers and adjoining owners on adherence to the Party Wall Legislation while giving full regard to the neighbours' rights."
