Building work underway on dolphin viewing centre
23 September 2021
The site at Greyhope Bay in Aberdeen broke ground today marking the beginning of a build programme that will deliver a dolphin viewing centre, cafe, education and community space for the city.
It is the culmination of a six-year journey for the charity from ideation to construction of the build which has received wide support through community-led fundraising. The project team included Project Management services from Ryden.
Founder, Dr Fiona McIntyre said “What we are about to witness is the outcome of countless hours of planning and many years of dreaming, leading to the achievement of this significant moment in which an historic place is altered by our purpose and ignited with new life.”
Ryden Project Manager David Moore added “Ryden is extremely proud to be providing Project Management services to the Greyhope Bay Board for this exciting project at Torry Battery. The sod cutting ceremony today marks 18 months of hard graft by the extensive team of consultants, contractors, benefactors, volunteers, stakeholders and the Greyhope Bay team led by Fiona McIntrye. We look forward with great excitement to the facility opening to the public”
The project’s development will secure an innovative future for Torry Battery whilst protecting its position as a key site of both environmental and historical significance. The new green-powered community space will create a spectacular vantage point for visitors to take-in views of the city, coast, harbour and the many resident Bottlenose dolphins who regularly make an appearance.
